Hello Scouts,

Was good to get back into a regular meeting. And excited for our first campout of the year tomorrow. A lot of fun activities coming up, so be sure to read more below.

To the update:

1) Sign up here for Summer Camp, June 23 – 29. It is highly recommended for all scouts, but especially younger scouts. It is a really fun experience, opportunity to get merit badges, and a great chance to bond as a troop. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/12JH-lVnDwLNYvF3XXGqaNaHiJ-3OhXhZKz650k-etpk/edit?usp=sharing

2) April 11 – Order of the Arrow Elections. Order of the Arrow is an elite fraternity of scouting dedicated to service and fellowship. To be eligible, scouts must be First Class, 13 years old, and have 15 camping nights over the past two years which must include a long-term camp (at least 5 nights). If you are interested in being considered for OA, please let me know ASAP.

3) April 11 – SPL Elections for the May – November term. To qualify scouts must have completed NYLT and served as an ASPL. We will also need ASPLs. ASPLs plan two months of meetings, assist the SPL, and serve as SPL if the SPL cannot be at a meeting. ASPLs need to have completed ILST.

4) April 6 – 7: Rocky Mountain Train Show – Scouts in uniform receive free entry and can complete the Railroading Merit Badge. More information at: https://www.rockymountaintrainshow.com.

5) April 20: Good Turn for Ecology — trash pick-up in Cherry Creek Res. More details to follow. Great chance to show your scouting spirit and get service hours.

6) April 26 – 28: Great Sand Dunes Campout. One of our most popular campouts from last year is back. Sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0E4AAAAD22AA8-48451061-great

7) Registration is open for National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT). This is a weeklong leadership camp held each year at Peaceful Valley. It is great experience that is highly recommended for all scouts — and required to become an SPL in the troop. Scouts must be 13, First Class, and have completed ILST. You must also get a recommendation from your scoutmaster, so let me know if you plan to register. More information is here: https://scoutingcolorado.org/camps/tahosa-high-adventure-base__trashed/national-youth-leadership-training/

8) We have added a second Philmont trek and have almost enough girls interested to have an all-girls crew. Our treks will begin on July 10, 2025 and last 10 days. This is a foundational experience of scouting and highly recommended for all scouts. You must be 14 or 13 and entering 9th grade and First Class. If you are at all interested, there are still some spaces available so let Mr. Wilcox know.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Mr. Wilcox
